Understanding the Charismatic Churches in Lexington KY

Written by admin on October 28, 2011

The charismatic movement is continually on the rise.  There are many charismatic churches in Lexington KY alone.  And the numbers will continually rising.  However, not a lot of people understand what this movement is all about.  As a matter of fact, a recent survey concludes that a lot of people have came up with various speculations about the charismatic movement.  Some were good guesses, while others are bordering to absurdity.  But in order to understand the continuous growth of the charismatic movement, it is important to know and understand what the charismatic movement is all about in order to clear out any misconception.

First of, let’s start with defining the charismatic movement.  The Charismatic movement is defined as a cross-denominational church with practices and beliefs heavily based on those of the Pentecostals.  Like the Pentecostal movements, such as the Assembly of God, the charismatic movement is presence driven.   Their belief centers upon the divine intervention by the Holy Spirit and how it must be a vital factor in their lives.  The members of the charismatic churches in Lexington KY place heavy importance on the need for the baptism of the Holy Spirit.  In this way, the members can receive the spiritual gifts from Our Father.

Glosolalia, divine healing and prophecy are also apparent with the charismatic churches in Lexington KY.  While they were criticized as the “work of the Devil” by members of other denominations particularly those of which are non-Pentecostal, they are believed to be  the manifestations of the Holy Spirit’s blessings upon His flock.  They are signs that that the Holy Spirit has finally welcomed them to the Kingdom of God and that the Holy Spirit resides upon them.  It is also important for the members to spread the Good News of the Lord to the whole world through evangelism, as part of the Body of Christ.

Now, let’s correct the common misconceptions about the charismatic movement. For starters, it is commonly believed that the Charismatic movement is led predominantly by female pastors.  This couldn’t be any farther than the truth.  The number of female pastors are actually almost equal to those of other denominations.  Another common misconception about the charismatic movement is that they are very small and outdated.  On the contrary, the infrastructure of the charismatic churches are not exactly miniscule compared to other churches.  They are, as a matter of fact, large.  Apart from that, they also use top-of-the-line devices for their parchial activities and ministries, such as projectors and the like.
